What manufacturer makes a good 5x7 speaker? I need to replace a set, and add another. I can't fit a 6.5" or 6x9, plus there is already a set of holes for the set I am replacing.

Roz, a lot of 5x7 speakers are sold as replacement speakers, and as such don't come with grills. Do you know which models come with grills?
Thanks

I dont know of any 5x7 that come with grills. Boston used to make a set. Where are these located that you can't put 6x9s?

They are located on the fiberglass base for the front seats on a Carrera 257 Party Effect deck boat. There is already a set of Alpine R Series 5x7's that needs replacing, and I want to add a second set. I just replaced a set of rear 6x9's on the boat with a pair of the Eclipse 4 ways, and the template that came with them is too large to use on the front area. I might just have to go with the Alpine again, but I am unhappy with them. The center cone that holds the tweeter came loose causing the tweeter to go bad.

what about making a panel wraped in the same vinyl as the seats and put a 5.25 or 6" component down there?

Don't have the heigth to mount the 6". The fiberglass base (from the floor to the seat cushion) isn't tall enough to mount one. The 5.25 would work, but since I already have one set of holes cut for a pair of 5x7's, it sure would be nice if I could just replace the one set, and mount another set of the same type. I might just have to go with another set of the Alpine R Series 5x7's. They come with grlls, and are still available on ebay (I think they are no longer being made).

Also just because the grill says Alpine dont mean the speaker behind it has to be an Alpine?

Frank, can you get the 5x7 grills from Alpine? That way, like you say, I can put anything behind them. Or, does anyone else make a 5x7 grill I can get?

Ya know, you're a smart mother f'r for remembering to recognize the obvious.... :D
As long as the tweeter pole clears the grill(can mount speaker behind the baffle as well), buy the speaker you want and hide it behind the Alpine grill...

That's good for the set I'm replacing (I can re-use the grills), but now I need a set of grills for the speakers I am adding.

I called my most likely canidate bays that might have extra grills laying around, but found nothing.
Maybe RB or Frank has a set they didn't turn over to a customer...

I would just make a panel and add 2- 5.25 and tweeters and call it a day they will out perform any 5x7 and you can hit them with way more power and you will never have problem finding grills :hammer2:

I have (4) older Pioneer 6x9's powered by some cheap amp in my Daytona. I was looking for a little upgrade, and I have an old HiFonics Olympus amp and an empty box for a 10" sub. I was planning on tearing out the old stuff, using the Olympus amp and just upgrading the Pioneers to maybe some Infinity 3 ways (693.5i or 9603i - what is the difference?) and adding an Infinity Perfect 10" in the box.
Does this sound o.k. or is there some better speakers to use?
