reliability is no problem but i just like the omc better i think i guess for the $400 i paid for it 6 yrs ago it was worth it. att he time it had 50 hrs on it. i paid $600 for the yammerhammer with low water pick up it had even less hrs on it I WILL RUN ANYTHING BUT A MERC! i have other plans for the yamaha once i get pix i will post them im sure Havasudreamin will have something ot say aboout it though but i like it

Anytime you can put together a toy for $500, you are miles ahead of the game.......and yes Snapper, if you want to try something new, put a Merc on it http://free.***boat.net/ubb/wink.gif
Now seriously, didn't someone say the Merc's rev and the OMC's and Yamaha's don't need to rev as much because they have torque? If this is the case, I would think a high rev motor is what you want because it doesn't take much torque to get a 17' going.
I know, I know.........your about a likely to put a Merc on your rig as I am an OMC on mine. Good luck, have fun, be SAFE! http://free.***boat.net/ubb/cool.gif

yea i no im not reel fond of mercs becuz as strange as it may seem i have a strange fettidh for jumping large sandbars so i need the high torque plus i like the sound of omc's better, i know i am weird

Hey Snapper; Sounds like you got a cool new toy. Thanks again for the help with the Atlantic. Still haven't found out all the info yet. We got a new toy last week. 1986 23 foot hawaiian deep vee (ex race boat). It has a tubular b bracket, dual axle trailer, and a mid 80's Johnson V6. Total investment, 1500, and it runs. Like you, I will run anything but merc, but prefer only omc's if I can get them. Do you have a good base of info on these v6's. All my experience is with v4's.

Snapper;
My 150? omc v6 runs strong but I want more. Top plug at back of powerhead has two numbers on it. Top one starts with 155. Bottom one starts with 150. Is it indeed a 150? I have been told replacing carbs with a set from a 175 will make it a 175 (carbs were only difference?) And have found a set for 300.00 (reasonable?) Also have been told replacing heads with a set from a 200 hp is better and cheaper than having my heads worked. Is this true? Can you tell me where I could get both hard steel lines for my T&T. Factory cost is close to 200.00
Thanks man, I appreciate it. We'll have to do a run together if you can get near the Indian River on Florida's East Coast.

this is crossflow i take it so look at you carbs there should be a number like 1" 5/16 or sumpin like that go bigger if you can i have a set of 1"3/16 but i think they are 150 i would just shave the original heads down some definitly cheaper than new ones as for thw steal lines i may have a set i have to look they are used though better than what you have? as for carb prices that is a little high i have to look for those too but i think i may have some 200 carbs havent looked lately but v4 carbs fit too 25 horsepower will make a difference but not much email me at bigfish1229@aol.com i will look in a few minutes for parts

ok i got bored yesterday so i decided to try out the yamaha excel 225 on my new toy just to see what it would do and i was not as happy as with the evinrude it would not turn as many rpms with the same prop so i think i will go back to the evinrude tomarrow with a bigger prop

well before trying the omc again i decided to borrow my dads 2001 sx250 yamaha and see what the dif. would be it ran just about the same as the evinrude so i am thinking of trying a 250 vmax to see what the difference is

Sounds like a cool ride. I have a 20' Vegas 'stream with a 225 Johnson. Just had John at Mazco send me a RE4 28. What a great ride! I hope you have as much fun with yours as I do with mine.
Good luck!
