Hey this is my first post here and I am glad to be onboard! My question is though it may seem stupid I have to ask.I have a '91 hydrostream V-KingYT with a '93 Merc 150 with a detwiler jack plate it runs decent even with the small hp turning a 26" 3- blade big ear chopper the question is what differences would i occur from changing gear ratio's? because I have two lowers to use 1)1.87:1 2)2:1 please help with advice Thanks in advance

With your combination as long as you have a prop that allows the engine to maximize rpm & mph for each gearcase it will not make much difference, except for the obvious ie: gear ratios. An xr4 or xr6 gearcase that utilizes a 1.78 ratio and a smaller diameter gearcase would make an improvement in your boats top end. Many pad boats like yours that are properly set up will see a 4-6mph improvement. Joe /////////// abellera5@uneedspeed.net

this is probly true but im not sure because on a old style vector the motor that will turn a larger diameter wheel will be faster simply because of the blade difference

On my twin promax Skater I went from 1.5 gears to 1.87.With the 1.5 gears I was hitting the 6,500rpm rev limiter at 96 or 97.Now with the 1.87 gears I hit 102 at around 6,300.All this was with 34" wheels.
