What are your opinions of sprint boats used as recreation boats. These are 19' to 24' aluminum hulls and quite fast. On is currently for sale in Las Vegas.

I would guess they are very solid, light weight, straight boats. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

I was wondering the same thing. Some of the Eagle hulls look pretty sweet and durable.

I run a 15' Jetcraft (Eagle actually made the boat) and its got a SBC, aluminum heads, Rewarders and a Legend pump and a place diverter. The motor is pretty much stock and I'm getting GPS speeds of around 66. Its got a roll cage, seat belts etc. Mine is so small that its basically a 2 seater. On the ramp and at the river I get more attention than most guys whose paint job cost more than my entire set up. Its turns really well and you don't have to worry very much about debris in the water, its made for it. I'm getting great performance out of basically stock power. Today is the first day I will actually try my hand at a shallow river. Hopefully I don't break anything-Aluminum Squirt

Yes, Eagle Marine, Boice Marine, Kenferm, Alumaweld, Kwik Kraft, Gator, Maracle, etc. All make good aluminum recreational hulls. But these sprint boats are low & very sleek. Much like the Eagle sport model. Jungle Boy was in the process, or has already sold his civilian set up. But he and Smash are good sources of valuable info (as is everyone on this board).
Who makes these "Sprint Brand" hulls in Vegas? I found a similar boat for sale in Vegas about 15 or 18 months ago. Same "Brand", similar power set up & boat shape. However, I can not find who the actual manufacturer is, or where they are located. I would assume they are custom made to order, much like a good fiberglass boat manufacturer. They must be very tough.
Any ideas?

I've got about 50 hours of seat time in an aluminum white water boat and all has been good. Only one problem, its all been on flat water. Today I tried my first shallow river and I had more fun than I can possible put into words. At first we were very tenative and vey careful, seeing how much water we needed, looking at sand bars, logs etc. After gradually increasing our speeds we realized what these boats are built for. They are built for hauling ass through very shallow and/or very ruff water. I can't say I've ever had more fun boating. The best part was not dealing with any other boats and not really being concerned with wind or wakes. My aluminum boat works great at the lake. It flat out kicks ass in 4 inches of water. I highly recomend this style of boat to anyone and if you get a chance to take a ride, do not pass it up. I also made a startling and very cost effective realization today. I don't need any more speed. 65MPH is fine, I need driving skills and down the road I'll probably need a couple horsepower. I learned a lot and I'm quite certain there is much more to learn. For now I'm going to stick to aluminum and shallow rivers. If you are ever in the Sacto area and you want a ride, give me a call-Aluminum Squirt

Eliminator boats was selling a "Sprint aluminum boat" (not the 19ft. fiberglass model they sold) back in 95-96(?) I remember seeing the ad in Hot Boat mag. My buddy rode in his freinds's 15footer with a small block chevy in 94' up around speed alley, they were doing those fun turns when they zigged when they should have zagged. Needless to say, they ended up in the reeds about 20yds. deep! Call Eliminator, someone should have info. on them.

how do they do with the heat? it gets pretty hot down here. just wondering if they get any hotter than a fiberglass boat?

mud duck

Future boater, I too am curious about that. A while back, there was a web site that showed a polished or buffed aluminum jet boat in Canada. (It was an Eagle hull with a GE airplane jet engine called Squirt2) They installed a diamond tread aluminum floor. Well, this was not a recreational boat, it was a "boat show" boat or "experimental" boat, but I wondered how that shiny floor would feel on the feet after several hours in the hot sun. Similarly, how hot will the hull get in the same conditions? Does the durability & light wieght out weigh the temperature troubles? If you paint the aluminum, is the temperature trouble fixed?
All interesting questions. Now, if I could only figure out how to post a pic. I should start with the simple things before I get to carried away on the hard stuff.

Any boat with dark colors will get hot in the sun, An aluminum hull is lighter and faster than almost any glass hull.
Eagle seems to be about the top N.American aluminum hull builder now. Check out their step tech hulls or their tunnel, JB's boat will run 80's with a small block Others will run over 100 with 600 hp all day long
The price of that boat 30 plus thousand(US) will put you into a Brand new Eagle easy

BTW mine is almost the same as squirts but with a few more ponies(35 maybe) and it will run mid 70's with 3 degrees of wedge in it and you can drag it 100 feet back to the river with a quad to continue the fun

Got my first sunburn of the year, the boat will hold 500 galons of water, never pass a cop when pulling a trailer at 95mph,they need a weight limit on swim suits.
Generally a good time the weather wasn't too bad, we had a really good time

Just got back to work and have time to sit down and read up on what's been happening here. First off, I believe that the actual "sprint" line was a Outlaw built hull back when Rob Chrunyk was a partner there (about 12 years ago). They evolved into the "sport" line up. Eagle will still build them as a custom build. There are many differnt guys out there that have bought and tried to duplicate these boats, some with success and some without. These tin boats are the funnest thing I have ever gotten into, that burns gas, that is. They are very fast, strong and handle great. I highly recommend a boat like this to anyone who has ever rode dirt bikes, sleds and fast cars. Running skinny river at high speed is the most wildest thing I can imagine. I still get goose bumps everytime I back the boat in and I have about 1000 hrs seat time on the skinny water. I F?ucking Love it.

Mud Duck, You have loaded up a ton of tin boats there. The 17' Eagle boat (red/black/white) was my first boat. Very cool looking boat. It died in a crash with a rock that was attached to the earth. The air borne Eagle was us in New Zealand. The gator boats are from Eagle. The guy (Neil?) from Gator came up and went boating with us a few times and buys the boats from Eagle and welds them up in his shop in Minn, I believe. Have you got one yet? I decided to keep my big boat that was for sale. I knew that I would be sad about selling it after it was gone. I still see my 70 1/2 Camaro around town and felt that I would not do the same thing twice. I get to attached to material things I guess.

Jungle Boy, Sorry but I left for the cabin on Thursday. My current boat did fine, but I always want more speed. Just got it back from HTP in Kansas, he freshened the motor a little. New cam, intake, carb & impeller. That old 455 Olds sounds like it is going to blow out the engine hatch at 4400 RPM. I am a little nervous running it that fast, but I need more speed.
Obviously, I have not yet purchased a new boat. Maybe this winter sometime. The Gator dude is in Missouri, and they are Eagle hulls. But there is another in Missouri, he cuts & welds his own hulls. Curtis Dzuba is his name and he worked with Eagle before. I just put another picture on the media center of a recent hull he built called a Scorpion. Kind of similar to a Commander or Carrera open bow. Might be something to consider.
Have you finished your new small block build up yet? I thought it was in the neighborhood of 434 cubes. Is this for your big boat? Or racer?

Jungle Boy
05-29-2002, 07:10 AM
Mud Duck,
I remember Curtis. I have not heard how his boats are turning out. I'll ask some of the boys and see what they say. My 434ci should be done right now, but I'm at work and won't be home for a couple of weeks. I will run it in the race boat for a play motor for while, but still race the ZZ4 or 383 motor I think. The V-hull with the 434 would put me in the "A" class and against some real nasty motors in tunnels and guys with bigger budgets than me. The ZZ4 in race mode still runs 80 and is cheap to blow up. The Worlds is in Mexico this year and it's basicly a 600 mile drag race, so I'm not going to blow up my new motor and be floating down those rivers with all the banditoes standing on the banks. I'm getting a 19' tunnel build over the winter and then the 434ci will compete beter with "A" class guys. Take and happy boating.
