I was curious if anyone in this group has any experience with the Arneson surface drive?
They claim a 15-30% increase in speed using this unit. They appear to be able to replace the Bravo. I am sure the unit is not cheap but if they can deliver on their promise it would be a great way to add MPH without messing with the engine.

back in about 1984 a buddy of mine had a 28 foot Steve Jones hull with a twin turbo 460 Ford with an Arneson drive.Great unit [bronze model],the newer models are made in aluminum [cheaper].The only problem with them is the huge rooster tail, even with the deflector mounted on,and the extra lenght versa I/O.It also seemed to be happier at faster speed [it's a surface drive unit after all].

The reason why they're not more popular is strictly becuase they're dangerous as all hell. For swimmers that is.

Hey GEOO,
Great boat. What did the drive, trans and steering set you back? How's the weight with the transmission? How much power ya getting out of that small block?
I have an old Volvo drive, and have been wanting to get rid of it for years.

Geoo,I just came back from the arneson site, great boat you've got there.Like your engine setup too.I see you got some tabs on to stop chinewalking?I remember a lot of donzi's had problem with the volvo outdrives in the seventies going over 55 w/o trimtabs.
What speed you getting and how much HP?

Havasu Hangin',
The drive set up is not difficult. I bought a used drive and did the conversion myself.
I won the NJPPC 24' and under radar shoot out. It was too rough to go fast. They clocked me at 79.6.
Spectras Only,
No problem with chime walking. I only use the tab's to keep the boat level in a cross wind. I run a Bored and Stroked Small Block Chevy. Approx. 500hp. I run a Rolla 25 pitch with a 1.33 gear at max rpm's of 6000. She run's consistently in the mid 80's and on a good day I've gps'd her at 90.2 and 90.4.

GEOO, did you purchase both drives and if so, is the second one for sale? If not, do you know a good source for used drives? I think the Arneson drive is the best thing around and I want it for my boat. $13,000 for the Bravo conversion kit is a little hard to swallow though. Thanks.
