HEAT,
USE A LONG STRAIGHT EDGE OR A STRING WITH A REALLY GOOD EYE AND CREATE A LINE EXISTING OFF THE TRANSOM AT THE BOTTOM CENTER OF YOUR BOAT.THEN LOWER THE OUTDRIVE TO PARRALLELL THIS LINE.THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE BOTTOM SURFACE OF THE BOAT AND THE CENTERLINE OF THE PROP SHAFT IS WHAT I BELIEVE IS COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS X DEM.HOPE I HELPED.

??? is it the distance between the bottom and the prop shaft or the distance between the bottom and the point where the imput shaft to the drive goes through the transom?

skijake ,the X dimension is the center of the propshaft relative to the keel at the transom

Ok I'm no Rigger. So tell me, what does knowing the -X- Dimension tell you. ???

How deep the drive (and prop) move through the water.
Deeper= more conservative; slower top speed, but easier planing.
Shallower= more top speed, but more chance for blowout while climbing on plane.
Most manufacturers test their boats with different x-dimensions to find a happy medium.
