Here's some pics from the bluffs above State Beach (Califia) in San Clemente. My digital camera is is old and does not have a great telephoto lens, so it's hard to judge the size of the waves.........

He tried to kick out of the wave at end, but got sucked back in.....probably got a pretty good "washing machine" tumble.....then I watched him for about ten minutes get pounded by the incoming waves as he paddled out again....:idea:

As you can see in the pics, the off-shore wind is blowing the spray back....which holds up the waves and helps to make for a great ride.:idea:

That started off looking oK, then closed out. I used to ride up in Humboldt. We had decent sized waves like these regularly, but the water was so cold every dunking gave an ice cream headache without a hood.
Now I'm too old and lazy to beat myself to death paddling out..:-)
