:clover: Settle down guys and gals. It was all good, clean, fast boating fun in a beautiful setting. You "Lake James Jettters" put on a great event, the only thing better would be another one befoe the Leaves Change. I had a great time and the barbeque and R.O.'s slaw was right on. Good to see the WV crew again and Tim WO 454, that boat runs better every time I see it.
Until Next Time :chi:

Just returned home from Lake James. I would like to thank Mark and all the other NC gang for asking us down to share their beautiful water playground with them. lots of terrific scenery, nice water, sandy beach and the Southern hospitality lived up to it's reputation. Had 22 at the dinner table last night, nice crowd.
This trip was one of the highlites of my year. Unfortunatly we recieved news on the way home that one of our racing family perished in a drag boat accident in California. That kinda took the glow off all our faces. Godspeed, John.
-
I'm glad ya'll had a good time. Wish we coulda been there. I can tell you one thing, I'll never believe the liars (weatherman) again.
Danny changed the gauges on our boat, and then dragged me to the lake to test them out. My gawd was it cold late in the afternoon :2purples:

Can't add much more than what has already been said, beautiful lake, fantastic people, fast boats, good food and cold beer. Life is good.

Hey folks....
First of all, what a great weekend !!!!!! It was simply fantastic !!!! The people first and foremost, the boats, the lake, the campground, it was all great.
It was great to meet some new friends, see all the boats together, weather cooperated for us, enjoyed the company of each and every person there, didnt want it to end, time definately flew by too fast. But, it just means that next time will be that much better.
I plan to dump the pictures to the pc this evening and hopefully post a few up. I know I saw several digital cameras, and a few video cameras all weekend, so there should be plenty of pictures here soon.
More later....

The kids and i had a great time. Very nice people, great food at Jerrys favorite place, and a real nice lake. It did go by to fast.
As Jim has already told, some very bad news on the way home. One of our racing family was killed in a race this weekend. John Hipwell top fuel driver for the Madness boat didn't made it after a crash. He was a real boatracer, loved the sport and died doing what he loved. He will be missed. A very sad way to end a great weekend.
I hope we can get together again.

Hey VDCruiser,
Lake James is just north of I-40 in Western NC. Look at the map and trace from Hickory west to Marion NC and go north. It's before you get to Asheville. A looong way from Nooopert Noooz...
It's the first in a string of lakes down the Catawba River that includes Lake Norman, where I'm at.
-
I'm glad you guys had a good time. Someday maybe I'll be able to show up at one of these things. At least I got to see the WV boys headed home on I-40.
I was between Hickory and Statesville headed home, hauling a transmission on a little trailer behind the 4Runner. I wasn't running too fast, about 60. Suddenly a pickup and a jetboat on a triple-axle trailer blew past me along with the other traffic that was...well...blowin' past me. WOW! I sat up and looked in the rearview mirror, and, well, WOW again! Here came the convoy headed to I-77. I waved at OneBadBowtie (I think) and gave 'em a thumbs up. I recognized Shirkey because of the hydro- and then that beautiful Sleekcraft passed that looks better than pictures can ever describe. I punched it to try to see if you guys got off for any reason before I got to 77, but with that trailer, and that transmission rattling around back there, I didn't try to run with you. Besides you'da thought I was crazy or something not having any idea who I might have been....not that you know me anyways...
Oh well, maybe next time. After all, I got the Rayson fired up again tonite after getting the water out of the float bowls so I could set the idle. Now to get the rest of the wiring done. All that because I was inspired yesterday evening seeing all those beautiful boats.

Dave,
I was in the truck pulling the jet boat with the "One Bad Bowtie" sticker on the back. We saw you when we passed by cause I remember asking my buddy Paul if he knew what kind of transmission that was. So, you got our attention also.
Maybe next time we meet we will be able to visit at less than 80 MPH.
-
Dave, I remember passing you pulling the trailer with the transmisson on it. That first boat that passed you was a blown V-drive Cole runnerbottom(liquid Invader) next was PE857 with his blown Cheyenne jet, myself and then Manic Mechanic with his Sleekcraft jet. We didn't stop till we got on 77N at the first rest area to get the boats ready for the storm that was hammering Fancy gap. Had a wonderful weekend, great boating with great people.

OK Folks.....
Due to popular demand and lots of talk, are we all ready for one more get together at Lake James this year ?!?!?! For those that missed the last trip, this might be your chance ? For those who were there, you ready for another one ? Few of us talked last night and just threw some dates out.... what about the weekend of 10/23 or 10/30 ? Other suggestions always welcome as well. Lets see what we can do and go from there....
Dreamsicle/Keith,
Yes, that is the Southwind from the Richmond area, I picked it up about this time last year. It needs lots of attention to detail, but have been too busy just enjoying being back on the water from several years away. I have been slowly doing modifications and changing things here and there. This winter will be major down time to deal with some long term things on it. Glad you passed on it, otherwise I probably wouldnt have it right now :D .

well... Jr. where are the PICS Dude??? :D :D

Yeah! where are the pics JR? :rollside:
-
Yeah Yeah....pictures at some point guys.
Hey Todd, heard you will be paying us a visit next year, great to hear it.
Can you believe work has actually been trying to make me work since I got back.....lol.....the nerve of these people. So, pictures are coming, just slowly. Besides, Sleek's put up a few good ones !!! Love the dock picture, damn, just look at that water !!! I think we were all foaming at the mouth trying to get on the water as quick as possible....lol. Look close, you can see Markist standing there in awe :jawdrop:
Later,

This was a great weekend trip even though we got there a little late,
everybody had a good time, the campground was awesome (thanks Wideopen for looking out for us), the southern folks are great people.
It was super seeing our old friends Travis, Mike & Jamie,
Tim, Paul, Jim, John Shirkey, Leland, Alex and Evan.
Markist, it was great meeting you and your wife... thanks for the brewski's..
I'll buy the next sixpack.
Jerry, I thank you for the breakfast and all of you for being the great hosts that you were.
JR, It was real nice meeting you and we hope to see you again soon.
Thanks you guys, for inviting us down.
I have not winterized my boat yet as Beverly and I were already planing another trip down there once the leaves start changing, so 10/23 or 10/30 sounds good to me.
Pin it down as soon as possible so we can make reservations we will be there.
The water was smooth, the weather was great and we were all glad we came down .
Here are the few pictures that we took.
This is everybody coming into the campground.

Dave,
Thanks for the compliment on our boat, we got really lucky a certain person
brought it to our attention. (Thanks again, Tim)
It's a shame you couldn't make it, I was hoping to meet you finally,
I thought that since that was your neck of the woods that you might be there.
Get that boat together and come see us at the next one!

Looks like an awesome time. Pick a date and we'll see what we can do from up here. Its 550 miles for me, so chances are we'll leave here Thursday, spend the night somewhere along the way (Shirkey or Wideopen) :D and get there Friday and leave Sunday for a long ride home.
