Hey Stump!
Great photos. I'm glad you posted, since I didn't get pix of your Mandella when you brought it over to the house. I'll have to save them to my harddrive collection.
Hope you're feeling good these days. Did you get any time to work on the handling before it got cold?

It looks nice but whats with the ski tow? Don't you need a flag person to pull a skier? Or is it just for visual effects? It is a bit confusing. lol eek!
-
Stump....is that a Velvet-Drive? If so where did you find the bell housing?

Stump....is that a Velvet-Drive? If so where did you find the bell housing? Dan, they're readily available from a number of places. I might even have a couple laying around. I can't remember though if they are for top or bottom mount starter. Let me know if you're interested and I'll check for you.

In NC we have to have a human observer of responsible age, able to give and receive hand signals (e.g. sober enough to figure out the skier just went down and tell the driver) or have a panoramic mirror for the driver.
I can't tell you how many lake lice you see pulling skiers around here with the little crappy excuse for mirrors on them. I guess if the skier goes down, and you suddenly accelerate on the SeaDoo, you figger the guy's down...
Anyway, Stump's ski tow is probably a clandestine cleat for tying up at the marina.
:D

yeah the ski tow is for tying up at the gas dock,it was on ther when i ought the boat.and if anybody is crazy enough i'll give em a hell of a ride on a inner tube !hehehe

Stump, I'm looking at transmissions for my 66Lavey craft. Is that a velvet drive in your boat?. How do you like it and can you tell me a little about the install. Thanks for your time.
 V-drive

Yes that is a velvet drive trans.there is a torque plate attached to flywheel and trans attaches to bellhousing, just like in a car.The trans has 2 hoses that run to a oil cooler .supply water to engine goes to oil cooler then to engine.it's pretty simple setup.

Stump,
That's a pretty trick drive line tube. I've never seen one like that on a Velvet Drive. Was it made custom or can you buy them? Nice boat BTW... Next time I'm in NC I want a ride!
Happy new year,

S&S thanks for the nice words.the driveline tube is a 2 piece unit it was on the boat when i bought it.It is split down both sides and there are 2 bolts on each piece that hold it in place.

 V-drive v-drive,
I put a velvet drive in my 16' Beezer. It worked out very well. In a 16' boat there wasn't much room. I didn't have to move the motor back but I did move the v-drive forward about 4 inches. This raised it up by less than 3/4" so it didn't affect the driveline angle much but gave me a longer driveline.
I've read a lot of discussion about having a tranny in a v-drive. It just depends on what you do with your boat. Mine's not a race boat so I'm not worried about the extra 110 pounds (about what a Velvet Drive weighs.) I use my boat in the Delta mostly and it sure is nice to be able to kick it in and out of gear in the 5mph zones. It is also very nice when maneuvering around a crowded launch ramp... The days of sitting on the bow paddling like crazy are over! Now I don't even need to set my beer down when I come into the dock :D
I'll be glad to e-mail pics of the installation if you like...
Happy New Year,

Bung,
Happy New Year! I had a good Christmas, especially now that it's over! Decemeber 26th is my favorite day of the year wink
I've been very busy getting my new shop finished up here in Nevada City. Lots of snow lately... Shop's coming along though, just need more time to work on it.
Do you go to the Turlock swap meet? I'm planning to meet up with 058 there...
Be good tonight!

S&S, thanks for the words of encouragement and yes I would really like to see the pictures. I am trying to keep the boat as close to original as possible. I am using the original v-drive (casale 12deg 17% in n out)and am wondering if that is going to create a problem. Let me know what you think and thanks again. Ben Brosch  V-drive

v-drive,
Your v-drive should work fine you just need to "lock" the in-n-out in gear. I e-mailed you some pictures this morning of my setup... Also, if you are serious about the Velvet Drive, I know where there are some good deals up here in N. Cal.
