Got this off a trundra board.
A guy over at Toyota Nation has confirmed more info about the new Tundra.
Oh yeah, did I mention that he said a new 380 HP V8 will be offered?
Displacement should be in the 5.5 - 5.7L range. A while ago a guy said the top engine would be a 5.7L. I have also heard from a few that there will likely be 2 - 3 different V8 engines offered this time around. The 4.7 may or may not be carried over as a base engine, and either this 380 HP will be the second or there will be one in between(maybe 5.4-5.5L?). The new Hybrid will likely be launched in '09 and a diesel is reportedly in the works. Edmunds Inside Line has a short article about it. http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=108724
Good! Now they can catch some shit for crappy gas milage too!

Yeah I dont think the big three have much to worry about when it comes to trucks. Wondering if the new toy will be offered in a 3/4 ton, 1 ton, dually, I dont think so :yuk:
Don't bet anything you don't want to lose on this bet. You've already lost that bet. The big three (especially Ford and GM) have a LOT to lose - they depend on trucks for sales and revenue to keep their car lines going. When Toyota takes a bite out of their truck sales they're going to be in big trouble (more trouble than they're in now). Keep your eyes open and don't bet what you don't want to lose. :boxed:

Naahhh... don't you know that everything from Japan get's good gas milage??
We won't mention that fact that my neighbors Titan get an average of about 2 mpg less than my Chevy... worse than that in town...

Be interesting to see if a half-ton pickup can handle that...
The 1/2 ton chassis can handle it, the problem is EPA standards on light duty trucks. Ford has a 4.5L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel they can put into the F150 but they have to make it more compliant to these standards.
BTW-- With job cuts, plant closures, etc. we all should be buying AMERICAN manufactures' trucks. Yeah,Yeah,... Toyotas are built in America.... blah blah..., but it is still a Japanese Corp. What country do you live in?

ahhhh... I'd heard rumors about both GM and Ford introducing diesels in the 1/2 tons, but no real reason as to why they weren't on the market yet.
Personally, with diesel being more than premium these days, if I was looking, and didn't have a need to pull something around all the time, I wouldn't even consider an oil burner.

A 4.4L diesel with 330 HP is rumored to be in the '07 F150. Which now also has a 6.5' bed available.

The 2008 3/4 ton GM and Ford trucks will have Twin Turbo Diesels.
-
The Tundras have always been OK trucks but the motor has always been the worse V8 in the class.(Easily 40-50 HP behind the Chevy,Dodge and Nissan)
If they got there power up to Titan levels they will sell alot of them.

I remember people laughing at them in 1970 as a non-competitor, then again when they entered the truck market in the early 80's as nothing to worry about. US manufactures better wake the f' up

Huh? Toyota is by far the best engineered and most technological engine in the field. quad overhead cam 4 valve per cylinder engine with variable valve timing. And its proven to be a bulletproof motor.
Toyota 4.7L V8- 271HP with 310lb of torque at 3,400rpm
Ford 4.6L V8 - 231 HP with 293lb of torque at 3,500rpm
Chevy 4.8L V8 - 285hp with 295lb of torque at 4,000rpm
Dodge magnum 4.7L V8 - 260 hp with 310lb of torque at 3,500rpm
