Need some help guys. Being new to jet boats and the boating world I'm going to be restoring my 79 Borum Ranther and one of the questions I have is,on the exhaust I know the flappers help keep the water from entering during shutdown but what if you are just setting idle or mooring. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Welcome! I'm not sure I understand what your asking here, if your asking weather or not its safe to run the boat with a missing flapper, sure it is. I've run my boat the rest of the day after loosing them on a couple occaisions w/o problems, I just try to keep the nose of the boat pointed at oncomming waves.
The exhaust risers help keep the water from running into your motor. See pic

While the engine is running the exhaust flowing out should keep the water out.The flaps are mainly called upon during shutdown or when sittin with engine off.The risers should keep the water out sorta like a Ptrap. damn I type slow
I run the standard risers on my logs.
Furthermore I don't run flappers either. I fabbed these tips.

With the turndown they help heep the water out. Also when the DNR guy comes along side when I'm idling it's just blub blub blub.
Pay no attention to the fire in the carb.

When the boat comes up on plane they really open their mouths tho.
So far I've not encountered any problem not running flappers.

Thanks guysthat helped quite abit. The guy Igot the boat from had the risers going down like a sink trap and said after setting dead in the water for a little while motor would be hard to start. From all the pictures I've seen they go upward like I thought. Can't wait toget it done for next summer.
