I have a 19ft Eliminator daytona, a farely heavy layup and am having a motor built that should make around 750 hp. Had the pump setup by Jack at MPD. With that kind of hp about what kind of mph should i be running?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say 90mph. budlight
100 to 105 easy.
A guy I used to work w/ had a Canyon tunnel that went 100 w/ 650hp.

Hard to believe with only 650.Was he using DJD's GPS unit? :)
Classic remark from Bense at one of the last races.."Hey danny, your supposed to peel off that little sticker that says 131 mph before you use it"..Ah shit that was funny.
Robert,I would think mid 90s with a tail wind going down river is doable. Is the engine supercharged?
It had as many C.I. as mine, w/ iron merlins and a .650 roller cam. The GPS read 99 mph after running at that speed for about a mile. Tends to leave a pretty good impression on you! :)
It was down river....now that I remember so I guess you can scrub off about 4mph. :boxed:
mph is overrated. how much beer and ass can it carry? :)

Bense has got all of us then! :220v:
The motor is not supercharged. It is a 468ci bbc. Afr 315cc cnc ported heads. 12.5 to 1 compression. team g single plane manifold with 1150 dominator. solid roller schneider cam with 274 duration intake 284 exhaust at .050, .660 lift. Engine builder said he built a motor similar to this with 10 to 1 compression and a slightly smaller cam that made 710 hp. I would like to run 100 mph, i do have a NOS big shot system for it if it comes down to it. What kind of power does it tak e to run triple digit mph in a boat like mine.
Stop beating around the bush..... As Cyclone said, how much beer and ass will it carry?
LoL

How about a picture.
Funny you mentioned MPD. I have not heard much on the boards about them lately. Seems like all the talk is about Tom Papp. Whats up with that. A year or so ago, MPD was what all the talk was about.
A LOT of HP if it's a heavy weight lake boat with stock bottom and full interior. You'll probably need the NOS.
If the boat and pump are set up right, the bottom is straight, and the motor truly makes 750hp, it should run between 100 and 105. It was probably 5-8 years ago, but ***boat did a test on a green and white 19' Daytona with a mild blower motor that reportedly made 750 hp and I believe that boat went 105mph. :)
I'd say about 90mph with a good lake setup, but don't worry you can always say you GPS'd it at 100mph. then its as good as true, isn't it? :rollside:

i have that ***boat mag. it was june 1997 edition. the boats name was green envy. it had a 496 chevy with a 8-71 blower runnin 5 lbs of boost and two carbs. it made 800 hp and topped out at 104.6 mph on radar with its setback pump, droop snoot, semi blocker race scoop, ride plate and shoe. the hot boat test team said it was the quickest accelerating boat they have ever tested. it went from 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds. you could run ihba's modified eliminater class (10 second 1/4) with this setup.
113mph with no gas, no passengers, no cooler, down river with a good coat of wax on the bottom and a tale wind with a blower with 20 pounds of boost and nos.
Thanks,
Balls
Pictures were taken with old motor and pre pump work. Pump was set back, new intake loader, shoe and ride plate, all the insides gone through including inducer impeller.
I'm gonna go with 90 to 95. I hope it's faster for you but we have to be realist :rollside:
Did you tell Jack what kind of power you'd be making?
What size did he cut the impeller to?
i told him what kind of power it would be making but not really sure what he cut the impellar too. The boat ran 86 mph before and the motor had 10.25 to 1 compression with stock 990 recangular port cylinder heads that had been cleaned up. This was also before i had jack go through the pump and set it back. If i could run 95 mph i wouldnt be dissapointed.
What RPM were you running @ 86mph?
Your boat will likely beat most boats out there that you "might" go up against. :) Just not CS19!
What year was the hull laid in?

unfortunately, fairly heavy doesn't really say exact weight of the bare hull, or close to it, and around 750 doesn't really say exactly 750, what rpm it makes the hp, what hp the pump will absorb, etc. basically, it's impossible to say how fast it will run without being a little more exact with some info. my "guess" would be that if you can get 650-700 into the pump, and the boat is in the 600lb range, you could get it into the low 90s. but that's just a guess, and you never know what you might be able to do with some hardware adjustments. first race of the season at ming is in march, so maybe bring it out and run river racer, then you'll know. from what you've given, i'd say it's highly unlikely you'll be at 100.

a blown 496 in a daytona, and that's it? 0-60 in 5.2? i'd like to see 'em running m.e... there's always room for more :)
:D
I AM OFF TO GLAMIS RIGHT NOW GUYS...HAVE A GOOD NEW YEARS.
The hull is a 1992. The boat was turning about 5800 at 85 mph. this was before the pump had been gone through so the rpm could be completely different at the same mph now. Thanks for all the input guys. When i take the boat out ill let you know how it does.

5800 w/a "tight" pump would likely be right around 100 for your hull would be my best guess. If you can turn that rpm w/ your new engine then I'd say you'll be happy.....and you'll now like it more cause it will accellerate HARDER w/ your "new" pump.
Just decided to post an update on this thread. Boat ran 96 mph at 5900 rpm with new motor.
That's movin'.
Is that with the same 750hp engine that was talked about earlier in the thread?
What impeller?
i am running a fairly light 77 19 daytona.......468 hyd roller bbc with alum heads and 1150 dominator at 6000 rpm with a fairly tight 12jb pump not set back with a stainless b/c impeller 6 degrees up angle on the nozzle with no diverter........it does 85 on the gps......and thats real mph not ebay speed........i am sure there is more in it but i am happy with it lol good luck :) :rollside:
yes thats with the same motor mentioned earlier. dont know how much horsepower it actually makes, 750 was an estimate. The speed on the gps was 95.8 mph, no ebay speed here either. Its with a b/c impeller set up by jack at mpd.
hell isnt 96 mph fast enough? lol anything above 85 to me is helmet and racing jacket speed. got to love those daytona's :) :rollside:
well im hoping to do a few more changes to get it to the 100 mph mark.
What's the bottom hardware like?

You might think about a different cam.
How does the boat feel at 96 mph? Is it doing anything weird or feel like its running out of water?
Have you played with the shoe depth at all?
yeah ive played with the shoe depth a little. added an 1/8th inch shim, brought the back of the boat out a little more. I also have another 1/16th shime that i might install. It doesnt seem to be running out of water. talked to dave at DNE and showed him the cam card. He said there is some horsepower to be gained with a cam swap. So over the offseason ill go ahead with that cam swap and see where im at.
I have a 19' Ultra Shadow (AKA Cheyenne) that is very heavily laid up. I have an 802hp NA engine in it with a B-impeller. This pushes me to just under 100mph. (Drives me insane that I can't reach the triple digit mark yet! :D )
Drives me insane that I can't reach the triple digit mark yet!
I actually think runing just under 100mph is cool. Nothing better then having a honest high 90 mph boat (that is quick too) spanking all of the so called "100mph" boats left and right. I just loved it when someone would say there boat runs 100 but they can't get around me. Then the look on there face when you tell them your boat doesn't go 100 mph... haha!
I suggest before everyone trys to get to 100 and beyond, learn how your boat handles and reacts at the speed your running now and know it well.

Well said !!

Do I see a bit of NOS in you future?
