I think the reason that the headlights seem dim is that they had them hooked up to only 1 battery (8volts). I'll look into a voltage reducer. Thanks

That is correct. They will work with 8 volts and be dim, or with 16 volts a be real bright also. Get the reducer. I just put one on my cart and it works great. Powers the stereo & lights no problem.

Not sure. When I did that, it burned the paint off the house, so I just went with 8 volts till I got the reducer. Way to friggen bright.
Problem with running them at 8 volts is the drain on one battery more than the rest which will reduce the life of the battery.
Typically, accessories are run from 2 batteries on 36 volt carts. On 48 volt carts, voltage reducers are used. You can reduce 48 volts to 12 volts, or 16 volts to 12 volts.
