Spun the prop? Check the rubber insert between the prop and the hub...
Just got a call from a buddy who was on the water pulling a skier, boat overrevved and would only pull at idle speed from that point on, made it back to trailer fine but only at idle speed, reverse works fine, no grinding or unusual noises, V6 w/alpha drive. 90's model cookie cutter , Im going to get enlisted to figure this out and I dont know shit about stern drives (jet guy) can one of you guys give me a starting point for this problem? thanks ......
Spun the prop? Check the rubber insert between the prop and the hub...
Hangin, just called him, can he check this in his driveway?,and be able to tell, thanks, Vic
Sometimes it's tough to tell.
The prop is pressed onto the hub with a rubber insert...that way, if you hit something, the hub will spin and do less damage (prop, shaft, etc.).
I've seen spun props that you can't even tell. I've also seen them where bits of rubber are hanging out near the hub. Tell him to look very closely at that area. Or, try another prop- that will tell.
If that is it...it's not very expensive to have a new insert pressed in.
Hangin, thanks, I'll make the call........Vic
Well...let's hope that's what it is...it's probably the cheapest possibility (other than he forgot to pull the anchor up).
Hangin, you were dead on, he said it was obvious, goes to the prop shop tomorrow, thanks....Vic

No worries. Lucky guess (but I'm still sending him a bill).
