    Can you glass over gel ( using ployestor) or do you actually need to go down to glass. this is for bottom blue pirnting..

    Yes and no....
    Yes you can glass over gel but it will not be as strong as sanding the gel down to the glass..

    Gel coat is just resin with color in it, A thicker version of resin but polyester resin just the same! I have some gel coat at the shop that uses the same hardener as resin! Its made by a company in washington! Anyways the bare fiberglass will be much stronger but I have succesfully glassed over gel in the past without a problem! Im not sure I would use polyester resin on the bottom if it was me. I am a big fan of west systems epoxy. Ive been using it since I flipped my first 12 footer over on the dock at al larsons marine where I grew up and started fixing leaks! (Much to dismay of the marina personel)
