    Hey guys and gals,
Does anyone know if personal crafts are allowed to be in the water in Mission bay durring the Unlimited hydroplane races like they do in Washington? Is there a special permit, or event ticket that needs to be purchased? Mission bay is Salt water right?
Any info would be greatly appreciated! Anyone else thinking of going? Mid September.

Salt water and you can pass through in your own boat via escort but you cannot just hang out and watch from your boat.

Thanks Tyson Ross. We saw the hydroplane race this month is Seattle, and personal crafts were allowed to be on the outskirts of the race circle. Sounds like they don't permit that in Mission bay though. I guess that will save me from having a reason to put the boat in salt water!

You can float and hang out to watch the races. There will be boats rafted up in three differnt area's to watch the event. The best spot is over by the bridge towards Sea World where they hoist the boats in at the pits, from that point you do not need to wait for the escorts to come and go. The only spot you will get stuck is at Campland On The Bay. If your there your going to be waiting sometimes up to 1 hour for an escort. Otherwise you can hang out on either end of the island where Paradise Point and the pits are and have acess to drive in out of Mission Bay. I have been the last three years and it is a blast. It is more then worth the trip!!!! Salt Water, just flush your motors and wash the trailer real good, you really wont notice anything if you just dip it in once or twice. Its frequent use that will start ruining a steel trailer.

3DO explained it a bit better then me. I have always watched it from Mission Bay Park as that is where the drags were as well as the Crackerbox races which my father participated in. Near the bridges is where I remember you could float and try to see the races from. Best bet is where 3DO was at. Good time whether you get wet or not
