BBC - How are these removed? I've tried punching a hole in one to try and pry out but it doesn't seem to be working.

hit it more towards the edge and try to get it spin on an axis, then grab a hold of it with your favorite pair of channel locks and yank it out :hammerhea works every time. hitting it in the center could drive it into the water jacket on the block which is not good.

I've seen people drill particularly stubborn ones in the center and use a dent puller.

Might be all the sand in the bottom of the block.
Take out the block drain plugs and put water to the engine like you are running the boat out of the water. Poke in there and watch the sand/rust come out.
Eventually, if you beat on them hard enough, they'll come out. :hammer2:

get a bigger hammer :skull: I usually use a mini sledge with a large round chisel. haven't found one that can stand up to that yet.
