Heres the deal,,,1999 500 EFI w/whipple charger,,,the motor and whipple have 32 hours,,,started it up today to take it for a run and no water out the spit, from the intercooler. I let it run for about 2 mins max still no water,,,shut it off pulled the boat out thinking maybe the low water intakes could be clogged... I blew into them and only a little bit of water and bubbles came out the spit,,,,I blew into the spit and a pretty good amount of black plastic mixed with water came out the water pickups,,,my first thought would be a impeller some where,,,,any help would be great........Thanks
Backflush the intercooler, and change it to a transom mounted pickup. Keeps fuel from puddling in intake at idle speeds, and keeps sand and pebbles out if drive gets in sand. Also sounds like your impeller came apart, so you will also need to replace it and backflush oil cooler and lines and anywhere else the pieces lodged.
thanks for the reply, now just so I'm clear I need to change the mercury impeller or is there one in the whipple system.
The Mercury one, that's all there is. Make sure you get all the old rubber pieces out.
Was the engine and exhaust watering? And just not the intercooler?
No I don't believe so. The motor did warm up faster than normal, and then when I shut it down it smelled hot.
Have you taken the sea water pump apart yet?
Not yet but after the last few posts I feel that may be the best place to start. What do you think?
