I have been looking for a good set of heads for my 540 but there is so many out it gets confusing on which one to pick. The boat is a raysoncraft v-drive with a 10.5:1 540 solid cam 629 lift and 260 duration tem g intake 1050 carb. the cam is good to 7000 rpm and I do have 300 HP nitrous I use when I need to. Any recomendations?

How much rpm do you want to turn. It is best to have the heads then buy the camshaft last.

You need around a 335 to 345cc head. If you are interested in iron, I know a fella that has a set that he was sold for a 454 I/O. Way to big for the application.
7500 you are also going to need more camshaft. Lift will be in the 780 range.

I was actually looking for some recommendations on aluminum heads. I currently have a set of old 990's but one has a crack so if I am going to buy I thought I would just go ahead and bite the bullet and get a good set.

I have a great set of Brodex BB2X's for sale. Lots of work done to them. Pfaff had them done. Port intruders, 2.3 int, inconel exhaust. Isky Solid Roller Springs. Titanium retainers etc. They are fresh.
    PM me if interested.

I agree with cstraub that you will need quite a bit more cam for those RPM's. Erson has a marine grind solid roller that fits your bill quite nicely and is actually pretty easy on the valve train. Duration @ .050" is 276/284 with .731" lift ground on a 108 LSA. You will need dry exhaust and the recommended operating range will be 4600 - 7800 RPM. With that many RPM's you would definately benefit from a 4/7 swap firing order. As for heads at that RPM you could probably even get away with using up to 350 or 360 CC intake runners. Low end performance with this type of combo will likely be pretty poor unless you up the compression to 12 - 13, which means 110 octane leaded racing fuel, but it will rip!!!

Lunati has an identical cam, also. This is one of Lunati's that I like a lot. It's p/n is 50226LUN. It has .722 lift and 272/280 @ .05 on 110 LC. Not quite as peaky with it's 110 LC, and it too, is real easy on parts.
