    Jordy look where the starters located, wsuwrhr is right 2-4-6 are the lean ones 8 still has carbon on it.
    Sorry, I was just looking at the cylinders that were centered in the picture. My bad.

    I agree there was a detonation problem, but that carboned cylinder seems to indicate something else was going on. I assume this engine ran a single plane intake? If so, the intake charge should have been close to the same, cylinder to cylinder. Assuming the ignition system is good, I would look closely at the sealing pattern on the intake gasket. Looks like those cylinders leaned out BIGtime.... vacuum leak at the gasket? Manifold/head mating surface not parallel?
