Two 12W6's with 500 watts apiece willl sound good...I am assuming you are going to have 4-6 speakers elsewhere in the boat....two W7's with 1000watts apiece are pretty much going to over power 6 other small speakers...unless you are running some huge power to those separates or coax's...
I have two 12"'s with 750 watts apiece with 8 other speakers and it makes for a nice blend...

You are assuming correct... probably run Focal 6.5's for highs... and run Autotec amps.. 2000.1 for the subs and 600.4 for the highs..
