Is the noise coming from all the speakers?
I was in my truck the other day, and while under the dash, I accidently touched a hot wire up against metal. now, when I turn my stereo on with the truck running, all I get is a LOUD hum. it I turn the stereo on with the truck off, I can hear the stereo. I have an amp running my front stage (500 watts), and an amp running the rear (1500 watts), with a capacitor. any ideas as to what I did???

yes it is
Was it one of the stereo wires that shorted?
Can you hear any music over the noise?
Sounds to me like you may have blown your headunit preamp.
I think it was a yellow wire. not sure. I can hear music when the motor is not running, all amps work, but when the motor is running, all I get is a loud him, and BARELY hear music.
Maybe you blew the inline noise filter/fuse on the stereo swithed positive (yellow) wire?
Does it still get 12v positive?

fuse still good, still get 12v's!! aaaarrrgh!!!!!!!!
Don't beat yourself up about trying to find an external fix. Somethin internal is wrong with the unit... Headunits are usually abut 80.00 labor to fix and about 20 in parts on average. Unless it's a really expensive headunit, I'd replace it.
