    Hi!
Do anyone of you have any experience with Howard 28 Bullet? Looks like a fast and nice rig!

    Hi!
    Thanks!
I love the sight of the Howard 28 Bullet, and have read about it for 3 years now. I have seen several 38-39 feet high performance boats (Fountains, Nortechs, Formulas, etc) with relative high power (2 x 500 hp) only running 78-80 mph in the real world, and for me it would be a lot of money for a "boring" ride. The price for a Nortech 3900 with twin 500 Yanmars (and Arnesons drives) is approx. USD 600.000 incl. taxes....
In Norway you pay USD 7 per gallon of fuel, so effiency is the keyword. One engine and 90 mph + would be the solution to this. How much horsepower will be necessarry to get the Howard 28 Bullet to reach mid 90 mph or 100 mph in salt water? Temperatures will be around 20 degrees celcius. Maximum 25 degrees celcius. Thats summer in Norway!
I currently run a 1985 Phantom 25 offshore race hull. It makes 76-78 mph with a Promax 300 SVS. It has no cabin and is a true performance hull (only 5,5 feet wide..). Runs like a train on rails.

    Hi!
    (only 5,5 feet wide..).
Damn, that's barely wider than a canoe! I bet that slices waves like a hot knife through butter.
Do you have any pics of it you can post?
    Here's a link to a Powerboat magazine test of the Bullet 25 - http://www.powerboatmag.com/2004tests/06_04_howard.php

It will take 975 HP to hit triple digits in those conditions. Call Howard @ (661)257-9275. They are currently doing two of them with this configuration.

Howard is a great boat, no doubt about it. I was wondering if you have looked at the Laveycraft 2750? It is Lavey's off-shore race boat. It was undefeated last year and placed 2nd in the worlds at Key West last year. It will be raced again this year-Factory 1. I own a 2750 so I am prejudiced. I know that the race boat runs over 80 with a stock HP525, it's a great hull, take a look.
    Thanks,

I had a Howard Mini-Offshore 23 for many years. I really hated to sell it when I bought my new big boat. Howards are really nice boats. Gene Willen is an easy guy to work with in getting a custom boat built. The finish work is really very well done.
I was sorely tempted to get a 28 myself, but for the offshore and overnight trips I do, I simply needed a bigger boat, so I bought a 32 Fountain Sportfish Cruiser. On Sunday my twin big blocks drank $400 in fuel at $2.70 per gallon. I would really hate to spend $1000 for a day's run at $7 per gallon.
Laveycraft also makes very nice boats. They look like they are better in rough conditions (deeper vee, more freeboard, deeper cockpit), but for certain without any doubt the Howard 28 is faster (and in total control) with the same power, and will handle any water you will want to experience at the speeds you are seeking.

Do you have any pics of the 23 that you had? Color scheme?

That is about 25+30+15 nautical miles.
