Subject: Traffic citations
It is my responsibility to monitor the productivity of deputies
assigned
to traffic units. In reviewing individual statistics, I formulate a
question. What are some of you doing with your time out in the
field?
Taking into account that normal field activity accounts for some of
this
time (i.e. traffic collision investigations, backing up other field
units,
etc.), I am abhorred by the lack of traffic citations written by
units assigned to this office.
I live in this valley as do a majority of deputies assigned to this station. Come to think of it, many officers live in this community
and
I'm tired of hearing the negative comments about this station and our
performance. I am astounded how people violate the vehicle code
either
while I'm in my personal car or even driving in a marked patrol car.
Perhaps now is the time to take pride in your profession and start
doing
what the Department is paying you for. I don't want to hear any
whining
about citation quotas or other excuses for a lack of productivity.
Either
get your statistics up or leave. There are plenty of people who want
to
work in a traffic car. If you don't like what is written in this
memo,
see me, I have no problem being honest with you and giving you my
perspective on your performance. Oh, and if you need help getting
your
numbers up, invite me to work with you. I'll help you increase your
performance.
Quit complaining and start working.
