That,I guess, is a pretty safe bet, but I have always broken cams in with the full spring in place and have never had any problem with unusual cam wear. And I build motors every day. A lot of the motors we build are well over .800 lift with spring pressures close to 400# on the seat and I use that same break-in procedure. I think the best deal is to make sure your adjustments are right and have the tune up in the ball park when you start it, then do the 1500 to 1800 rpm deal for about 20 minutes. Works for me.
