Would get one if I were you .Here's what happened on saturday. Hitting a F...n deadhead [ below water's surface :lightsabe ]. If I didn't have a tiebar & external steering the rest of the leg would have ended up on the bottom.
I was going exactly 40mph on the GPS .Arneson drives would have faired better then these weak MC's .

Ouch that really sucks. Thank God the boat didn't sink. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna build a new motor this winter with a little more power so I will def, have to get some sort of external steering.

The boot looks intact. Did you have any water get in? Many times when you loose the whole thing, you create a serious water leak, somewhat bigger than your bilge pump can handle. Obviously, you saved the boat (this time).
BTW, did you know that in some countries it is illegal to use a boat with only one engine? I've been there.
No water damage at all in the drive unit ,only the right drive trim shaft got bent and sucked in some fresh water. I've already straightened the rod and tested for leaks. Had to purge the trim res too. This fiasco just happened less than a mile from where I launched the boat . Here's a lowdown I've posted on speedwake already.Burt , I would rather pay a fine and get back to the ramp ,than risk sinking the boat

the only damage on the drive is the left lip [ which the plastic friction plate is snapped on ] that is broken off next to the sacraficial anode .

Here is a couple of pics of IMCO Stand off, with trim tabs & clamp on mufflers.
The only diffrence is I do not have swim plateform that is bolted on, as mine is intergrated into hull.
    Hope this helps!

Use Merc's ITS, 7" standoff and intergraded hydraulic steering.

Thats a nice setup but Idon't think it will work. Those ears stick out pretty far.

This is what I'm looking into now. Probably be my best/only bet of doing it.
