Thread: Pulling the motor

I am pulling the motor on my 1992 OMC King Cobra and have never pulled a motor in a stern drive boat. My question is what's the best way to pull the motor? Do you remove the bolts that hold flywheel housing and pull the motor that way. Or, do you keep the flywheel housing on unbolt it at the stern drive mount? I know it's kinda vague but hopefully somebody has pulled a motor on a King Cobra set up. BTW the clymer manual sucks balls, no help... :hammerhea

Yes, the Clymer manual sucks balls and actually doesn't cover your drive. I have a 91 King Cobra and I got the OMC manual that has the big cobra emblem on the cover. It's actually pretty good. But I can't remember where I ordered it from. You might try these guys:

When I had my 87 KC I got a Factory Service Manual from this guy. Lots of good info on his site too:

Thanks for the info, I think I found what I needed on Doug Russell Marine's website, they have great exploded views on there...seem to have great prices, worlds aparts from what the guy at the boat shop wanted to charge me I am still going get a better service manual though...I don't think this is the last time I'll be working on this drive
    Anyway thanks for the replies.
