Does the gauge move when you turn the key on?
I'd start with the basics- make sure the gauge has power & ground. Then check to sending wire with an ohmmeter.
Fired up the Volvo 290 A today (290 hp chev. 350). It is in a 1984 Nordic Viking 23'. No oil pressure registered on the gauge. Where would you start, with the sending unit or the gauge itself? Any hints would be appreciated.
thanks

You can ground the wire on sender and you should see full pressure on gauge. Then try grounding sending unit terminal on gauge if get nothing at the sender. Could be a wire or connection problem, sender or gauge hard to say. Of course this is assuming if you ran it long it was not knocking!! Sorry couldn't help myself.
The gauge never changes, key on, key off, motor turning over, motor running. And thank goodness, no knocks
thanks for the input. Will be on Parker Strip April 12 through 20.

srs I wouldn't leave it that way. After you find the problem put in a mechanical gauge
