Thread: who knows head gaskets?????

    I am getting ready to put the head gaskets on my 496 i am building and they dont have the water cutout in them to go up to the heads is this a problem?Should i cut it out ?Does anyone know what head gasket i should use?I currently have the fel pro1037 performance/ marine.Is this right?

    Yes it is a gen 4 engine and i have the world product merlin heads

    Recommended Installation Items:
    Head Gaskets: Fel-Pro #1017-1or equivalent
    Pushrods: Requires heat-treated stock length pushrods
    Spark Plugs: Accepts 14mm .460" reach tapered seat 5/8" hex
    (Champion #670 or #802) or equivalent. Heat range may vary.
    Consult with engine builder.
    Intake Gasket: Fel-Pro #1211, Mr.Gasket #121 or equivalent
    Exhaust Gasket: Fel-Pro #1410 or equivalent
    Head Bolts: 8 Longer than stock required (World #832015-8) Does that answer your question? BL

    I have never run a Cometic gasket.I have used the Felpro 1017-1 for years with no problems.Unless you are running very high compression or alot of boost the Felpros are the way to go.

    But I dont think they make the cross over head gaskets though.
    Where I think cometic will make pretty much any gasket you send them a pattern for.

    With out spending a million bucks i guess the fel pro 1017-1 is what i needed.I have merlin heads and that is the gasket that they want on the motor....input very much appreciated :220v:
