Pat, the Olds flywheel wont even bolt onto a BBC.
BBC and Olds starters don't interchange. The noses are different since the Olds bolts to the left side of the block and the BBC to the right side.
help i think i may have the wrong flywheel. how do you tell the difference between a bbc and 455 olds manuel flywheel. the starter does not engage the teeth on the flywheel on my 455. is there a different starter for the two?
thanks

what would cause the starter gear not to engage to the fllywheel? it just reaches the face of the flywheel and spins.

If it turns out that you need a flywheel, I have 1 for a 455 Olds. TIMINATOR
turns out it was the pin that holds the starter gear in place was missing  thisa thing cost me $13,500.00 because it was not ready for tp5. so i bought my eliminator for the week end
