Thread: 21' Edge Phantom vs. 21' Eliminator Daytona

I have switched gears from the aluminum boat market after finally getting to ride in an Outlaw 21' tunnel and have decided to resume my search for a 21' Daytona or possibly an Edge Phantom 21'. I have never seen an Edge Phantom and would like a little information about them if any of you here have first hand experience with them. How do they compare to an Eliminator Daytona as far as build quality? Do they have the same bottom as a Daytona? What about interior space comparisons? I will be looking for a boat less engine as I will be putting a twin turbo aluminum 572" BBC in whatever I buy, but I wouldn't mind if the boat was complete except for engine, however it doesn't matter if I have to change interior and some rigging and what not. I do not want any junk or other people's headache project. I want something immaculate and not too old. I would prefer something in the 99-2005 year model range.

I have had both.....very similar in size, style and performance....given the same power and pump setup
They both like a lot of power...as do most tunnels..
I like them both...you would not go wrong with either....It would come down to who rigged it and set up the pump
Tom Papp could probably give you the best answert on the differances..he has built enough of both...

So I take it the aluminum boat wasn't up to your expectations.
What did you not like about it?
I think Revn Dave has a real nice 21' Edge for sale.
It was featured in Hot boat mag a few months ago.

Well, as far as the aluminum boat deal goes, I just didn't like the way the boat handles or was layed out. I liked the 21' V-bottom a lot, but I want a tunnel to put the nig motor in. The two tunnels I rode in both wanted a lot of up nozzel and a ridiculous amount of up wedge and while they handled and performed beautifully at 60mph and above they were very mushy and sluggish below that. To add to that they porpoise REALLY bad below about 50 or so, it was like riding a dolphin with a saddle on it. I talked to a few people who run these boats and they have almost all said that you could change the set up around and remove a bunch of the up wedge and they wouldn't porpoise as bad but if you do that they don't get up and run properly and they also really try to hook hard in turns and throw your ass out. The 21' v-bottom rode like a dream though. The fact is like others told me from the beginning, the 21' tunnel is a race boat made for long runs and wide open throttle. These boats do not accelerate like what we are used to with the way we set up our fiberglass boats but make no mistake about it, they do what they were designed to do very well.
jbb, thank you for your input. I guess it is just a matter of finding one of either one in the condition I want.
Hey unchained, did you get my last PM about my set up and the EFI stuff?

Beautiful boat revndave. Have you had any bottom mods done to your boat or is it stock? If you don't mind me asking how fast does your boat run and with how much power? What are it's handling characteristics at different speeds etc. etc.. Thank you dave.

It does have race bottom and is light lay up.So far I've had it to 110 mph.Still working on set up.Boat has more in it.This motor is 986hp at 7,000.I haven't ran full throttle yet.
