I'm just replacing the points with new and a new MSD coil.If you have any pointers Hammer I'm all ears.

    Skater...here ya go.
    *You'll need a Dwell Meter!!!
1'st, ya have to know where the (primary) and (secondary) set of pionts are. This is easy...look down at the distributor...and where the condenser hooks up, at the out side terminal...lets say that's at 6 o-clock...are ya with me?
The set of points to the left will be the (Secondary) set...and the ones to the right will be the (Primary) set of points.
1.-Set both points at .22 for a base setting.
2.-Block the (Secondary) points open ,(small piece of paper or match book cover).
3.-Set the (Primary) points up at 26 degrees of dwell. I'll take out all the spark plugs and crank the motor over with a remote starter to get the above reading. (Ground main coil wire!)
4.-Unblock the (Secondary) points, and (crank) the motor for a total of 33 + - 2 degrees.
5- Now if ya need to make an adjustment...ya use the (Secondary) set of points (only) for the 33+ - 2 degrees.
A wider gap lowers dwell...a closer gap raises dwell.
Thats all there is to it.
The above is the correct way to set-up a dual point Distributor...not just setting both points to 18 or what ever! Also the above allows the coil to build more of a charge for the points...thats how the system is designed to properly work...and it dose! And you should use the resistor that came with the MSD coil!
