Got a '89 model 305 out of a friends boat with a cracked block. It has the center bolt heads on the valve covers.
Got a mid 80's 305 from another friend but it has the traditional 4 outer bolts on the valve covers.
Will the later heads fit the earlier block???

go here maybe it'll help you figure out what you have heads (http://www.chevymania.com/tech/vortec.htm)
the heads can interchange with eachother. but like the last post says if it's a Vortec head you will have to use the Vortec intake manifold. if you have a set of the 53cc 305 heads casting number 14022601 or 14014416 throw those on a 350 or a SB 400 filler up with high octane and hang the phuck onalso the 60cc heads casting numbers 462614 or 10065205 ~64cc are good ones for making bottom end torque dont expect much on the top though.
