Now that I have seen the insane sound systems put into boats, has anybody used a dB meter ? If so how hard did it hit? Just interested which hits the hardest
    Thanks

RR, if you have a closed bow then I suggest you put the 12" subs enclosed in the bow. I have the Carrera Party Effect and have a ton of power (stereo) and do 70 and I don't play stereo when I'm running topped out for 2 reasons. No matter how good of a system you have once you start running you need to crank system up to hear it and trust me it's like hitting the rev limiter you can only handle so much. This drains batteries and decreases the life of the speakers and the bass losses it's umph when you start rolling. If you notice in a car your bass hits harder when you are stopped. So by not playing it this gives your batteries time to charge and you would have more power when you need to hear it, thru the channel or at the sandbar. The other reason I don't play it is on most CD changers and head units they skip all over the place. Sony came out with a pretty trick changer CDX 747, it has a 12 second delay so it can handle the rough water. I have that and a Mini Disc changer and that one has a 10 second delay, so I never skip a beat, well maybe once or twice when it's really rough. So to be honest save your power for the right time. Make sure you try to mount your tweeters has high as possible and keep your amps cool and dry... Good Luck........... BF

I didn't think you could clearly hear a decent sound system past 50 but if you can hear it up to 80, I'm sold. Where do you have the 12's mounted? Is it better to mount them under the bow facing aft or under the rear seat facing forward?

Urban legend has a couple boats in the 140's at a regatta sound-off (can't remember which one). Maybe it was Froggy's. I bet Alcoleholic's is there and then some. So far, he's got the most I've seen in a boat...
    ...besides this...ever seen a boat with a 32" sub?

And the 15" sub (must be "midbass")...

    Very simple sounds good.

I'm running the following in my 34' Magic
Sony head unit with 10 disk changer and remote commander
    6 6x9 JL speakers
4 sets of JL 5" speaker and tweeters.
4 12" JL dual coil subs.
    4 225.2 Rockford Fosgate amps.
4 Blue top Optima batteries with battery isolators.
The only thing that sucks is the built in volume control - the kids. Everytime I turn it up they start screaming "it's too loud". It also gets kind of embarrasing playing their music loud, you know all the boy band crap, and stuff you hear on Radio Disney.

I think it's a Clarion sub in a custom fiberglass enclosure. That place does alot of high end (Ferarris, etc.) installs, so I think they needed a place to show off their new toy.
What I think is funny...what happens when you hit a couple wakes...like from those damn wakeboarder boats?
No 32" waffle grill...are you picking voice coil pieces out of your skull?

Been a good day, so I had to tell everyone.
    Previous system:
    Kenwood eXcelon deck
    4x6.5 eXcelcon speakers
    Rockford Rosgate Punch 600.4 75x4
Wimpy setup, inaudible at anything higher than idle.
However, a buddie who works at Harmen International - they own Harmen Kardon, JBL, Infinity - has agreed to hook me up with the following:
    1 - Kappa 692Marine 6x9
    2 - Kappa 62Marine 6.5
    2 - Kappa Perfect 10.1d Dual Coil 10" sub
    2 - Kappa 62.3l 6.5
    2 - Kappa 693.3l 6x9
    1 - JBL BP600.1 sub amp
    2 - JBL P80.4 4-channel
    1 - P180.2 2-channel
Hopefully I'll be able to hear this system over everyones exhaust. Gosh I love boating!
