I finally installed the new stearing system. I bought the teleflex system (think it was the safe-T model). I'm alittle unhappy with the results though. The system is clearly visable when looking at it from under the dash, it's a big unit and my dash isnt all that tall. Any of you guys that install this system have this problem? I'm thinking i may be able to correct it by shimming the top mount bolt to raise the ass end up and help tuck it away. I mounted it as high as i could with out having that shitty plastic bezel from sticking off the top. Rex is out of bezels and they are back ordered for about a month. Does anybody know if the rex bezel that replaces this plastic one is just as wide? If it's not i'm thinking i may be able to move this system up.
Another weird problem i had was with getting the steering shaft to line up. With the steering tube and nuts/gasket tightened the tune points kind of at a downward angle. I have a droop on this and the steering shaft still seams to be too high. I'm wondering if my problem has to do with the steering tube being mounted backwards. Jack at MPD told me to do this to avoid buying a steering extention. Right now the way i have it mounted the shaft is putting preasure on the top of the tube and makes the steering feel stiff. I bought the steering swival from rex but at this point it's doing me no good. I'll get some pics of it up tomorrow.
The safe-T (no feedback) model is a bit on the big side, if memory serves me. My dash area is only about 5" and I doubt I could hide that style gear box behind it. Jet boats can use a rack steering system with no problem, since the jet drive doesn't torque steer like an outdrive or , excuse me for saying this,outboard.
I can't help ya on the steering tube set-up.

What steering system are you guys using? This kinda sucks because i already drilled these holes for this system :cry:
I'm wondering if the teleflex rack system mounts up the same?
I just went through the whole steering problem myself I have a old Morse system and had trouble locating the right cable. Morse sold out to Teleflex and discontinued making cables for my unit so I went through cp performance and they sent me what was suppose to be the replacement which was the rotary system but when I got it the unit was to big for the dash so I talk to Jack at MPD and Luckily he new a guy that stock piled those old Morse cables and had one for me but come to find out the replacement for the steering if you need to buy one is the rack and pinion set up if you get anything else it wont look right.

scoob, if you are talking about the morse command 200 system there is still a cable that works with it, just takes a little work to find it.

I'm not sure if this nut is suppose to be tight against the housing or if it's just suppose to be tight enough to keep water from flowing through. if i tighten it all the way the shaft is no way about to aim straight with it sticking out the way it is. I guess i may have to get a extention?

The steering tube, where it sticks out, only tightens enough to seal. Mine also had a nut on the outer end of the tube, that the cable end rode on.

Yes Im talking about the command 2 system I tried to find a replacement cable the only thing I can fine is a company that would custom make that cable for me otherwise I was kinda out of options. What cable would work with the command 2 ??

I think you should use a "swivel connector" such as the one on This Page at Rex Marine (http://www.rexmar.com/page120.html) to connect the cable to the tiller arm. It makes for a much nicer connection, has less play and makes it a lot easier to shim the cable up to compensate for the lower tiller arm position with a droop.

I got real lucky and found a guy that had some New-Old-Stock Morse Rotary Command cables a few years back when the one in my Sprint went bad. Even ended up being fairly local to me.
