This Ebay boat looks like it has thru-hull exhaust logs with no snails. Can you run this way without getting into trouble? Any comments or opinions on this boat?

if the exhaust hose is angled down from the manifolds to the transom, it can be done. There also needs to be a good set of flappers on or in the tips to prevent water backing up. The ones in the pic appear to be angled down but it's still not a great idea.
I bought a boat in the late '70s in which the previous owner replaced the snails with straight ends because he thought they would be less restrictive--not many headers around back then. Made for pretty much a straight shot out the logs to the bells. I don't know if they made any real difference in terms of performance, but I maintained the flappers and watched that trailing wake when stopping. Only had a problem once when I ran out of gas. Hydroed the motor, but recognized it immediately--switched tanks, took out the plugs, gave her a spin, put the plugs back in, and it started right up. I've had several boats since then, always with snails.
I have the same exhaust setup on the Stevens (logs with 35* ends) except there are no flappers on the tips :2purples: Took care of that today by buying a set of tips with flappers, so water backing up shouldn't be an issue. Hey, it worked since 1969, so I see no reason for it not to now.
It may work, but is just askin' for trouble IMO. Sure gonna have to be careful that way like Pete.
Sounds like an "if you've got them, keep them in place, if you don't have them you can probably get away with it" situation.
Any thoughts on the Hawaiian? It looks like a nice boat to me, in decent shape. Does the 402 make sense? I was surprised to see the 76 mph on gps, seems a bit fast to me for that motor.
You mean to tell me you discovered an e-bay boat that DOESN'T do 100!??!??!?!?!?!? Better buy it before e-bay pulls it for "false" advertising.
Noticed in the picture that it is not plumbed right. Might want to straighten that up if you buy it.
I passed on it, ended up selling for $4,800, might end up a good deal for whoever bought it.
Lowrider, as soon as Duane fixes the plumbing it will go 100!
