This quote and these pictures were found on the offshoreelectrics.com web site...
"OffshoreElectrics would like to thank Tom Keliher of Northridge Ca for all the great pictures and video. Without Tom, us FE enthusiasts would have been without the quick coverage of this record breaking event!
Legg Lake in California took its toll on many Fast Electric hulls this past November, 2003. Providing a final resting place for many! But not the JAG's Team Rigger. Jag's built a one of a kind custom, aerodynamic hull of carved foam covered with carbon fiber, they tripped the timing lights at over 122mph and than backed it up with another run of 119mph. To set a two way average of 120.7mph. They not only smashed his record of last year by 17mph, They broke the current Nitro Gas Boat record of 120.5mph. Making Fast Electrics the fastest Rc boat on the planet!
We all know the driver get all the credit and Joerg certainty deserves it, but there are a couple of other people that also need recognition. First is Arne. From what we can gather, it was his boat that broke the record. Than there's Gunnar, another builder. He couldn't make the trip to CA.
So what equipment did he use to break this record? Well most of it is a secret except the motor, controller and cells. They used a brushless hand selected Lehner 2250, 8 Turn motor and a Schulze Future 170 amp continuous rated controller. The biggest and badest brushless controller that money can buy at a price tag of more than $500.00. The control he used was a now production model of the prototype he used to break the 100mph mark in 2002. The cells he used were Hopf hand picked gp3300 cells, 32 of them in total.
So what next you ask? The 2004 competitors will be gunning for 130-140mph! With new cell technologies here now and new ones coming in the very near future, the FE hobby is only going to get better!"
