If I knew how , I would. I have 5 acres we could grow corn on.
Or know of someone brewing thier own?
I'm getting nervous about $4/gal gas in 2007. If it goes that high, I'll be right at $1000/month fuel bill - enough to afford some equipment to make my own fuel.

Hmmm...
Want to brew your own ethanol at home?
Well, there are a bunch of Hillbillys in Arkansas that can tell you how to do it, they call it White Lightning. Now it seems the revenuers have been on their cases for years. But now with fuel shortages and government encouragement to produce ethanol... I wonder if they will be firing up their stills again? :rollside:
Guys, we have endless supply of sugarcane here also. Check this site out:

We have been toying around with making our own Ethanol for years. Recent tests in Australia, done with similar brand new cars, running on the same road at the same, showed 10%Ethanol with Gasoline as having the best mileage. Actually, the least mileage was Leaded Premium, next was Unleaded, then 5%, and 10% in that order.

I'm not worried about mpg. I'm concerned with mp$ and to whom my $$$ go (i.e. midwest corn farmer vs middle east terroist).

That is a very good point.
The only problem is the distilling equiptment would be very costly.Once the still is built then you need fuel to run it and the ingredients to ferment and distill. You will need fermentation vessles and storage tanks for the fuel.In the long haul you may save money.
A small commercially available still that produces 1 gallon an hour cost over $650.You can learn more about distilling methonal and buying or building a still from Dogwood Energy (http://www.ethanolstill.com/)
Get a diesel it may be cheaper to run on used cooking oil (http://www.thevoicenews.com/news/200...tures/f01.html)

Hey now, we aren't all hillbillys here in Ark., but there are plnty of old boys around here that can tell you how to make it and a lot of them are old judges and congressmen and such.
I just hope we get to brew our own fuel sooN!
