If the bellows crack, you could start taking on water.
100% false. Look back in Mercruiser history. Certain models did not have a bellows on the exhaust. There was a tube that fit over another tube when the drive was lowered from trailer position to direct exhaust (and noise) thru the prop.

Leave it on. nothing will come up through it. Water will fill to the waterline depth. You can duct tape the top if your worried.

You must seal the tops of the "Y" pipe. Otherwise when you back off the throttle from plane, water WILL come up thru them.

You can get the correct diameter rubber block off's at any hardware store. They are used for pressure testing sewer pipes in a house. They come with the correct sized hose clamp. Available at Lowes or Home Depot.
    Works great.

Excellent idea, I went to my local hardware store and picked them up and it fits perfect! It looks like a good safe way to cap them off.
    Thanks!

Years ago I did the same thing. Went to home depot and purchased heavy duty rubber end caps for the same size pipe. They are set up to have double clamps installed. Worked great.
