In the circles I run Mastercraft is considered a Bayliner.
LOL...well if you run around in a Sea Doo boat I guess a Bayliner would be considered a big step up ....as is a Mastercraft would be to most of the other Wakeboard boat brands...
I have driven a couple newer nautiques, BU's, Tige's and MC's....MC has definitely come around....the X45 will be my next boat.

The x-star is number one ranked by WaterSki mag and WakeBoarding mag for wakeboarding/advanced wakeboarding/family boating. Both magazines say the x-80 is still awesome. The x-45 is right up there with the x-star. All have good reviews for wakeboarding.

Tell your brother he's gotta check out the Nautique 236 Team http://www.correctcraft.com/OurBoats/Crossover/236.aspx
IHO the best possible option for versatility, quality, and feel. Great wakeboard, great ski (in the course @28 off) Great performance, and good room. I also agree the X80 is too large for practical in water(board/ski/tube) use, and c'mon 1200hp in a dispacement hull. hmmmmmm gotta scratch my head.
