I would think alum oxide will do what you want for powder coat prep. I like glass for cleaning up aluminum, if you want to leave it with the cleaned surface.
i gotta pc machine over xmas and we just got a decent blast cabinet to do the blast work with.what's the best media to blast and brighten alum., and still work well when prepping for powder coating?glass bead, shell, alum oxide?we're gonna keep the parts clean before they go into cabinet, basically using the blaster for surface prepping for paint or pc coating. i've got some intakes i'd like to brighten up as well.thanks for any info fellers.

i had a intake blasted awhile back at a machine shop and it came out looking perfectly new, just can't remember what he told me he used on it.it had that "fresh cast" shine too it, look good.
