Both of your boats looked great at the dam run! Good work!
I had an 89 Sport Skier and it was just like an 88 SS that I saw at Topock 2 years ago. I know it is a different style but I have only seen mine and one other. I didn't know yours was also a SS when I saw it at the Dam Run. I still miss my old boat.......sometimes we had 3 good years running Havasu with it, although it was a bit rough at times.

Here are a couple more first cousins that used to run side by side in the mid 80's - early 90's. Two 1984 SS's.http://lafamiliatorres.org/guest/hallett.jpg

The differences between the 20 and the 23 are very different yet very minimal at the same time. Obviously there is a 3 difference; however interior room in the cockpit is about the same. Yes the 23 is a bit bigger, but not my as much as youd think
The 20 is good in any configuration Jet, V, Drive, or Stern Drive.
The 23 sucks as a jet, no pun intended, Hallett designed it with stern drive power in mind, or at least thats what I was told. The Jet driven 23s porpoise in all water conditions, to correct this the engines need to have high horse power in addition to, extended pump ride plates, nozzle trim systems (Place Diverters or Jet-O-Vators), and in some cases Droop Snoots.
The 23 in Stern Drive or V-drive configuration provides the necessary drag, which the jet doesnt provide, eliminating a great deal of the proposing (all boats porpoise a little).
Currently there are 3 23 for sale. Personally, no offence to the owners, but I wouldnt buy anyone of them.
1977 Hallett 23' Jet (http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/5/5/90325655.htm) A tad high on the price for a jet.
1978 Hallett 23' Jet (http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/4/9/90147749.htm) The boat didnt cost this much new in '78 + it's a jet
1980 Hallett 23' I/O (http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/0/3/90326203.htm) Priced too high for an OMC outdrive
Just my $.02
