OK guys, what is the best way to waterproof my sub enclosure without spending a ton of money and without adding too much weight to the enclosure?

Resin the wood on the inside and outside of the box. If water touches a un treated part of the box it's done.

Agreed...go to Home Depot and get some epoxy resin used for fiberglass. It comes with a little tube of activator...just a couple of drops....mix it well and cover the whole box.
    Good luck,
    Chris

MAKE SURE that you do not have the speakers in the box when you do this!!! I have seen the fumes from the resin eat the rubber or foam surrounds from the speaker. Just an FYI
