I often see some pretty lame excuses disguised as answers to some common questions reguarding Amplifiers and Speakers, Impedance, Power, how , why and what ifs. There is a book I recommend to most installers and even sales guys and that is the "loudspeaker cook book". Anybody that is going to be either in the industry or even those do it yourself types can learn the basic knowlegde(sp?) to keep from making expensive mistakes.

Here's another excellent site for sound techs. Though it's focus is more along the lines of the professional sound and lighting engineers, there is an abundant ammount of useful information that can be applied to home,theater applications.
Nothing is focused on mobile audio but alot of information there that may come in useful.

I think there are less and less enthusiests(sp) in the 12V Audio industry and as cars get more and more difficult to work on we are going to need installers with a more technical background. Also I feel that there is a lot to be learned from the pro industry. The pro guys rely on their understanding of acoustics and design the enclosures and placement of enclosures to create the best sound for the environment. This understanding of acoustics can directly relate to boats systems as far as how to load the low frequencies to create the best performance.
All the sites listed above should be on the favorites list on the computers at every audio shop.
I will keep them on my computer as a way to brush up on my electronics knowledge from when I went to school for it over ten years ago.

All I have to say is that you're lucky the signal becomes analog at the speaker ... lol... Aftermarket is shrinking each year... Since you know a few people at alpine, I know you must know that the engineers in their oem division is far more busy than the aftermarket division. Gotta pay the bills, right? .. I find it amazing that certain manufactures were still hyping that their subwoofer is better than the w7 all the while companies like JL and Audio Control are figuring out ways to integrating to oem applications... I think the adaptor companies will have a tough time keeping up with the cars in the future...
So, what ya going to do next?
Integration is going to play a major part in the aftermarket industry. My last gig at Alpine was designing sound systems for companies like Ford, Chrysler and Honda. Alpine puts a ton of their resources into the OEM industry and yes the OE department carries the entire company. Scosche is a company that I sell for and their business has picked up 3 fold this year. Installers are going to need a degree shortly with the ay cars are going.

Car networks will only become more complex. The more complex the service, the higher the labor cost. The only shops to survive will be those, like WFS and Preston's, that have become from a to z vehicle accessory showrooms... It use to be that 12v carried a shops profit over home a/v. Not these days...
