I am looking at cranks for my 468. I am probably come in around 650HP or so depending on final combination with a shot of NOS. So around 500HP without spray. I am looking at cranks and Ohio crankshaft said there cast steel crank holds around 800 HP well balanced and with a good balancer. Scat claims 700HP for there cast crank. So should I spend the extra $300 or so bucks for a forged crank and more reliability in the long run?? Also is there alot more work as far as clearancing if I get the 4.250 stroke and longer rods. I have a moroso jet boat pan and they said it cleares that stroke with H-Beams. So would I have to notch and clearance the block?? Or just stick with the 4.00
    Thanks Again,
    Jason

    FORGED
I would stroke it. Cubic inches = more hp 496cuin motors are very common these days. You can make 600hp pretty easy with a 496 and the right combo. If you do the 496 stroker it will clear the block all day long

Stroke it to a 496. all forged in any case. Be very careful on who's crank you buy. Do a little homework on that subject.

I ran a Eagle forged 1/4" stroke crank in my 496 and it didn't clear the cam bosses on my 4 bolt Mark4. Had to take a grinder to the inside of the block. It was a pain in the ass, but it worked well and the combo made good power.........

There is no replacement for displacement
And the few hundred bucks for forged is a no brainer.

I did alot of research amd eagle and scat are the best bang for the buck. Several well known builders(Ill leave thier name annymous) said that the scat cranks come out cleaner than eagle. This means easier(less $$) balancing and a more true crank.
The 496 kit runs about #1600-$1900 depending on where you buy. THis will get you
    steel crank
    h beam rods
    je/srp forged slugs
    clevite bearings
    file fit rings
you cant beat the price either. I tried to piece one together and it was around $2500
