I tried to run the boat today and seems it will not run unless I hold the chock on. Once I let it go the motor dies. Do I need to rebuild the carbs? If so, how much or how hard is it? this motor has sat for who knows how long.... Just got the boat and motor. Any ideas? Help!!!

Sounds like it is just running off the enricher. (shoots a small amount of fuel into the carb, acts like a choke) Could be stuck floats or the jets are gummed up. Pull the airbox off and the carbs, pull the float bowls and have a look. Rebuild is pretty simple, just don't get the jets mixed up and remember what position the carbs came off. Get a Seloc or Clymer manual and read up. They cover a range of different years and motors. Mercury manuals are more specific, but the others will do. Good luck. Gary
