I have a couple of steel props I want to coat. What kind of Ceramic coatings are you using?

You are not to put a coating on a flatty prop, everytime you take the boat out of the water you spray it with a oily coating (WD40 or similar),
The reason is if you do put a coating on it you wont see the fatigue cracks,
I have not heard of a ceramic coating for props,

not only that. it will wear off very quickly on the edges.

Talked with Carl Benton on this at length. He has tried just about everything in the way of coatings on props. Even the best performing stuff, causes cavitation. Makes wierd things happen.
Tom Bently was speaking of something called cal-coatings. this was a few years back. Never heard how that stuff worked out.

there absolutly nothing you are going to be able to put on a prop that is going to stay there for very long. even chrome won't last at the edges and then it's down hill from there, plus it hides crackes, makes mag'ing impossible, and creates hydrogen embrittlement if not handle right. Bad deal all the way around. Take the damn thing off and oil it EVERY outing

Do they make stainless props for flats? If they don't why not? Just curious

Stainless won't end up being as hard or rigid of a prop as a normal heat treated steel prop. Less rigid = less performance becuase the prop will slightly change in shape under heavy loads.
Kinda shooting from the hip here, but I believe that to be pretty accurate.

I think you are right on target RD. In my experience SST doesn't have the memory that mild has. I would be afriad that it would come back a different shape after each pass.

Polish the prop and keep a can of WD handy, as soon as you pull out of the water squirt it down before it dries, no rust!..
