The Black Rock Desert is lovely this time of year.
A group of my peers goes out in the hinterland beyond Gerlach every year for theraputic purposes. One year we went the weekend after BM. Those folks may put forth a "green" image, but they were anything but that year. Trash and waste of every conceivable type strewn everywhere. Nevada Dot closes the dump station at the Fernley rest area on 80 for the entire weekend due to the folks from BM using it for purposes it wasn't designed for.
I can understand the desire to seek something different to do on the last big weekend of summer, but unless you are motivated by the stories of your friends and others to go, I'd pass on BM. Just seeing the folks heading that way through our town coming from the Bay Area convinces me that it wouldn't be a fun place for me.
