When that motor was new it did have a rev limiter set at around 7,600.Hang on when it hits. It's like turning the ignition off for a split second. And if your running twins that means you are going to go hard right or left when it hits.
I have a 1995 2.5 E.F.I offshore 260 hp and was told that it has a 7800 rpm rev-limiter.Someone else said that they did not think this year had a limiter.I removed the control box to check which part number was installed and no # found.Engine will turn 7100 rpm with current prop so if there is one installed I have not used it yet. Please help!!! Thank you!!! Bob

Thank you!!! My control unit did not have any part number on it. Chuck Goodman at Hydro-Dynamics is building a nitrous system for motor and I will be seeing higher rpm on the bottle.May have re-prop or change rpm limit?Just the thought of the boat pulling hard right or left at speed gives me goose bumps...maybe a box of Depends would be my next investment??? THANKS AGAIN...
you should just simply disconnect the limiter you will know when you are at your limit
1995 was the last year for the Analog box. If it's a stock 2.5, it's probaly an 11350 A 37. That box actually has 2 rev limiters in it. At 7600, the motor starts flooding itself, then at about 8000, the ignition actually starts cutting out. You need to really turn a small prop to get to that limiter.
You can have a dealer send the box to rapair to have the rev limiters removed. For what that will cost, I would try and sell that box for a couple of hundred bucks to somebody and buy yourself a digital box. The motors run a lot better with the digital box.

Thank you Sam!!! I checked the engine s/n on mercuiserparts.com and according to the i.p.c. it has the a49 box (digital). Also the engine runs like sh&t with non resister plugs installed.I installed proper plugs and motor ran great.Someone told me that the digital box may pick up inference from non resistor plugs and cause all kinds of crazy stuff to happen...
Resistor plugs are absolutely CRITICAL in the digital boxes. The A49 box is a good box. You're in luck, because to remove the rev limiter is a very easy process. Buy a non-revlimiter chip for your box (make sure it's a 39 psi chip), remove the cover and carefully replace the E-PROM. Takes about 15 minutes in total.
