keel line repair

so i crawled under my 74 tahiti to check it out and the past owner apparently beached it alot. About 3 1/2 ft. of gel coat on the keel line is almost worn through. Is this something i can repair at home??? Or do i need to shell out the $1600 i was quoted?? There is no glass damage, or any dings. Just gel wearing off. id rather not dump 1600 into that repair, any suggestions on what i can do???

Check this out. http://www.homestead.com/jetboat/Kidsriding.html Dan did about the best job of describing how to do the bottom work I've seen. Not bad when you consider he did it in his driveway. I'll be doing mine one of these days and you can bet I'll reference this page many times. Greg
